Running for school board is an honor and a privilege. This is my community, my school district, and what I have spent well over 44 years preparing for.
I believe that being a strong school board trustee begins with listening, being thoughtful of all perspectives, building consensus, and acting with integrity. This leads to policy and goal-setting that align with what all students need to feel safe, get a great education, and build healthy relationships with their peers. Our schools and communities are strongest when students, parents, educators, and administrators have meaningful voice in the decisions that affect our schools.
As your Trustee, I look forward to working with everyone in the Placer Union High School District to continue what is working, address the challenges that we have to overcome, and build stronger relationships between students, families, and educators.
Meet David Lawrenson
I recently retired after 20 years as the band and choir teacher at Placer High School. Over 39 years of teaching spanning three schools and two states has given me a unique view of education. I have seen what works, what doesn’t, how state and federal laws affect education, and what good schools look like.
I have lived in Auburn since 2006, and both of my children have gone to school here and proudly graduated from Placer High School. It is my deepest wish that I can continue to serve the communities of Del Oro and Placer as well as the entire Placer Union High School District.
David’s Priorities for Our Schools
David Lawrenson believes every student deserves a safe, supportive, and high-quality education. As a school board member, he will focus on:
- Improving student achievement and academic opportunities to prepare students for college, careers, and lifelong success
- Adding CTE pathways and dual enrollment courses
- Improving Special Education Programs
- Promoting safe, rigorous, and welcoming campuses
- Governing with integrity
- Focus on Average Daily Attendance and enrollment to improve the district’s financial outlook
- Strengthen communication with students, parents, and the community
- Supporting teachers and staff
- Increasing classroom resources
Why You Should Care (and Vote)
You may not have a student in the district, but you will live with the results.
Today’s high school students will soon become our employees, business owners, neighbors, taxpayers, first responders, and community leaders. When more young people graduate prepared for work, college, and adult responsibilities, the entire community benefits from a stronger workforce, greater economic opportunity, and fewer costly social problems.
People with more education generally experience higher earnings and lower unemployment, and research has linked quality schooling with lower crime and less reliance on public-assistance programs. Strong public schools can also make communities more desirable and help protect local property values.

Who is David Lawrenson
David has been a tireless educator for the last 39 years. He has an extensive background in working with students, parents and administration so that every student succeeds both educationally and vocationally.
